Meet the Board

The volunteers providing leadership and oversight for Save The Animals Foundation’s mission to rescue and care for cats and dogs across the Cincinnati community.

Diane Isler

Board Activities: Board President, Leading STAF’s Strategic Plan, Coordinating corporate relationships (such as You To The Rescue, GECU, Hollywood Feed), Executing the STAF Volunteer Survey

Shelter Work: Monday morning dog volunteer, cat nebulizer, member of Dog Management Team, co-leading Dog Training and Enrichment Team, event volunteer, coordinator of multiple adoption events

Other Experience: Founder and CEO of illuminim coaching and consulting, recovering corporate executive with MBA from Xavier University, mom to two great kids, a lifetime of volunteer experience beginning with 4-H as a youngster

Board Activities: Board Vice President

Shelter Work: Friday night dog volunteer, Open House coordinator, and off-site event volunteer

Other Experience: Development Manager at Cooperative for Education with experience working in the international nonprofit field since 2017. Pet parent to rescue dog Kanu.

Jean Kandel

Board Activities: Board Treasurer, JIC investment liaison, grant writing, leads Medical Fund Campaign and Giving Tuesday, Website development and content manager, monthly eNews and direct mail lead, TDDD License with OH Board of Pharmacy.

Shelter Work: Cat management team, cat medicator, cat adoption chair, kitten foster home coordinator, cat database manager.

Other Experience: Sales and marketing career specializing in POS systems. MBA Kellogg, Northwestern University. Mom to six lovely cats all adopted from STAF.

Board Activities: Board Secretary, grant writing, coordinates Magnified Giving requests.

Shelter Work: cat medicator and nebulizer

Other Experience: Former Executive Director of Franciscan Ministries, Inc., now retired after 40 years in non-profit leadership roles. Board experience includes Franciscan Ministries, Knox Presbyterian Church, Linwood Community Council, Child Care Aware of America, Ohio Child Care Advisory Council, and others. Lives with husband, Craig; dogs, Porter and Maisie; and cat Woodrow.

Board Activities: Board member and website development

Shelter Work: Previous Sunday evening cat volunteer 

Other Experience: Regulatory compliance professional and Cincinnati Art Museum Catalyst board member. JD, University of Kentucky.  Cat mom to two rescues, Frank and Archibald.

Laura Salzman

Board Activities: Board member, assists with fundraising and events

Shelter Work: Tuesday or Wednesday evening dog volunteer

Other Experience: Litigation attorney, specializing in class action wage and hour lawsuits on behalf of employees. JD, University of Kentucky. Dog mom to two rescues, Pickles and Penny (lucky enough to have found Penny through STAF).

Melissa Arnold

Board Activities: Board Member, QHut Project Coordinator

Shelter Work: Saturday night dog volunteer, event volunteer, outside group volunteer

Other Experience: Captain of Cincinnati Fire Engine 50, Cincinnati Firefighters Local 48 Vice President, Cincinnati Fire Museum Board Member. Mom of four and grandma of one. Dog mom to two rescues, Ida and Trixie.
