Save The Animals Foundation Adoption Process
We work with you every step of the way to ensure the best possible match for both you and your new furry friend.
Step 1: Explore Our Adoptable Animals
Start by browsing our adoptable dogs and cats. Take a look at their personalities, ages, and special notes to get an idea of who might be a good fit for your home and lifestyle.
Step 2: Submit an Adoption Application
Once you’ve found an animal (or a few!) you’re interested in, complete our online application below. Our adoption team reviews each request carefully to ensure we can make the right match.
Step 3: Meet Your Potential New Pet
All visits are by appointment only. During your appointment, a volunteer will introduce you to the animals you’re interested in and share details about their personality, history, and care needs.
- Dog adoption appointments are scheduled individually, usually on a Saturday or Sunday.
- Cat appointments are scheduled individually, usually within 24–48 hours of application review.
Step 4: Second Visit and Confirmation
We require at least one follow-up visit to confirm a strong match. For dogs, this may include introducing other family members, resident pets, or completing a fence check or trial home visit.
Step 5: Adoption and Ongoing Support
Once approved, you’ll officially welcome your new pet home. Every adoption includes ongoing support. If you ever need advice or circumstances change, STAF will do our best to assist you.
Important Details
- All adoptions are by appointment only.
- You must be 21 or older to adopt.
- Dogs require a $275 adoption fee. Adoptions within a 30-mile radius of Cincinnati.
- Cats require a $40 adoption fee. Adoptions within a 150-mile radius of Cincinnati.
- Same-day adoptions are not available; our process ensures the best match for you and the cat or dog. At least one return visit is required.
- All cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines.
- Please allow 24-48 hours for a volunteer to follow-up after your application has been submitted.
