Say Hi to Maize! Maize was adopted from STAF two years ago but recently returned. She is incredibly smart and athletic, known to be an escape artist who engages in shenanigans such as opening doors and scaling 6-foot walls. Maize will definitely need a home with excellent supervision to keep her contained and safe! She loves to walk, hike, and run, but she is also a fan of lounging around when time calls for relaxation. She can be a bit territorial of her people and home, but we’re working with her to be more accepting of other people and animals entering her space. We are sad to see her back at the shelter, but we are looking forward to sending her off to write the next chapter in her young life. Welcome to Jonathan! On a freezing cold night in December, when one of our volunteers made a wrong turn down a street, she truly made the right turn for our recent rescue, Jonathan! Our volunteer did not see him and nearly hit him when he ran in front of her car. He then ran between two parked cars, and the closest parking was about 1/2 block away from where she saw him. Figuring there would be no chance of trying to help this cat, she went back to check on him and see if she could find his owner (thinking he accidentally got out of the house). Incredibly, this magnificent cat was just sitting on the sidewalk, and when she went to pick him up, she could see the injuries behind his ears, and she could feel the sores on his body. When speaking to a kind man in the neighborhood, our volunteer was told that people moved away two years ago and left this cat behind. As the evening progressed, instead of going to the movies with friends as was planned, this sweet orange and white boy went directly into the loving foster home of our volunteer. Because she and two other volunteers were originally going to see the movie Wicked, with Jonathan Bailey as the leading man (named as this year’s Sexiest Man Alive), they decided to name this gorgeous cat Jonathan since in our volunteers’ minds, he is one fabulous guy! Because Jonathan was unfixed and left to fend for himself on the streets, we were not surprised to learn that Jonathan tested FIV positive. He will go through his protocols, get neutered, and then he will go directly into our big-boy FIV room where he will be cherished and fawned over by our loving volunteers. Boy, we are surely so happy that our volunteers really did get to see Jonathan as the leading man in the drama that unfolded on that fateful night!
