With an unprecedented snowstorm sweeping through the Greater Cincinnati area, and knowing that many of the cats and dogs in our care absolutely must receive their medications, we once again jumped into action! Among the medical protocols administered for both acute and chronic conditions, some medications are truly critical and lifesaving. We care for animals with diabetes, heart disease, thyroid disease, and we have several cats that require bladder expression in order to eliminate; needs that simply cannot be put on hold. We extend our heartfelt appreciation as many of our volunteers divided and conquered, and brought twenty of our most fragile cats and numerous dogs, into their homes for foster care, ensuring there was no interruption in their essential healthcare. At the same time, we sincerely thank the dedicated volunteers who live close to the shelter and were able to brave the conditions to get to the shelter providing the many other protocols and daily stewardship required for the dogs and cats who remained. The compassion, commitment, and teamwork amongst our STAF family truly makes all the difference, especially when it matters most. Patches: diabetic, made herself right at home. Tatum: diabetic, started making biscuits right away. Pesto: requires bladder expression, ready for fun and adventure. Sophie: fragile, geriatric FIV+, making her foster mama feel guilty when she left the room. Shhhh, she finally fell asleep. Sunny was great with the kids and very playful. She loved running in the snow. Macie enjoyed the fireplace. Lucky had a great time and didn’t understand why people were worried about the snow. Cash loved playing in the snow with Jasmine but more than that, he liked cuddling on the couch and getting warm after a short time outside.
